Camera work and editing: Saving Private Ryan opening scene: In the opening scene of 'Saving Private Ryan' many different camera angles and shots are used to show the brutality of the Second World War. In the opening frames of the film we see an establishing shot which shows around 6 boats carrying soldiers across the sea with a strong current. A tracking shot is used so we move with the speed boats. This allows us to experience what the soldiers are experiencing as the camera moves with the strong current and shows how the soldiers are soaked with water on their journey. When the action begins we see an over the shoulder shot from the point of view of the German soldiers waiting on the hill for the British/American soldiers to attack. This allows us to view the spacial surroundings of the action as we see that the soldiers getting out of the speedboats are at a disadvantage. When the film then cuts to the wounded soldiers falling under water the sound drops and goes...

Uses and Gratifications theory: 1.) Outline the codes and conventions of the game/quiz show that are followed. The game show 'Tipping Point' follows the typical codes and conventions of most other game or quiz shows in the UK. This is because the show has a permanent presenter that stands at a podium in every episode aired. The TV show starts with four contestants who all battle to win a cash prize of £10,000. As the TV show progresses in each round, one competitor knocked out of the competition. Leaving one to take on the machine in the final. Another typical code and convention is the way the show is set out. Every competitor stands behind a podium with a buzzer. These are often used in order for one person to answer the question the quickest.  2.) Identify two target audiences for gameshows with explanations. Poldark Analysis

Poldark analysis: How does the clip create intrigue, excitement or interest for the audience? Sound - echo's when flashback, Dark undertone to music foreshadows danger and death, changes when violence starts to show the pace of the action. Symbolic props - The ring shown twice leaves the audience to ask questions about its importance, meaning and where it came from. Flashback - Leads us to question who the women is and why he left her.  Action scene - The sudden change from a peaceful environment to the action scene leads us to question why they are fighting. An audience member who has no knowledge of the time period may question the reasons why they are fighting.  What is the genre? - historical drama - The costumes worn by the characters show the time period which leads us to believe it is set in the past.  - Date written on the screen. - The way the actors talk, formal and similar to previous generations and not like modern day accents....
