Legal and ethical considerations:
Copyright:
1.) What is copyright?
- The exclusive and assignable legal right, give to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film. or record literary, artistic, or musical material.
- This means if someone else for example would like to use someone else's music over their film they would have to buy the rights to use it.
2.) What ethical considerations are there for media production?
- The ethical considerations for media productions surround what is acceptable to be shown or reported on in a magazine. For example in criminal cases if it involves children there name should not be displayed in the article for safety reasons. Magazines also have no age restrictions so the content should be appropriate for all audiences. The ethical considerations also could include topics such as crime and racism. The details of victims names should be kept private if they want it to be.
- An example of when ethical considerations were broken is when Kate Middleton was photographed topless on private property. If the photos were taken in a public place then they would have been fine however they were not so breach the victims rights.
3.) What health and safety considerations are there for media productions?
- Photo shoots
If there are photos shoots taking place for the magazine health and safety considerations need to be put into place. This is because if the shoot was on a busy street the company would need to ensure everyone is safe whilst there is lots of hazards around. This also apply's in a studio as there will be electrical equipment such as wires that could be a trip hazard.
- Buildings
In the building all of the staff work in for the magazine could also be a hazard. Staff should be trained in knowing the fire drill etc...
