Logistics: Trade Unions
Trade Unions:
1.) What is a Trade Union?
- An organised association of workers in a trade, group of trades, or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests.
2.) Why do people join Trade Unions?
- One of the biggest reasons people join Trade Unions is to ensure fair treatment in the workplace. For example most teachers are apart of a trade union. So if the government tried to make a change in education a large group of teachers could make a difference yet if it was just 1 teacher they would not be able to change anything by themself.
3.) Outline the main details of the two main media unions for these sectors. NUJ (National Union of journalists) and PACT (Producers Alliance for cinema and television).
- The National Union of journalists is the voice for journalists and journalism. They work to improve the pay and conditions of their members and promote media freedom. It is an active union and their members campaign and negotiate to ensure they are rewarded for their skilled work.
- The Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television helps to shape the best possible regulatory and legislative environment for the independent production sector. PACT works closely with broadcasters amd producers' groups to create training opportunities and promote fair access for all.
